An Interview with Advocate/Teacher/Mentor Deepak Bajaj

1. Deepak Sir, please introduce yourself to our readers.

I am Deepak Bajaj and practicing as an Advocate in Chandigarh courts since 1997 on civil, criminal side, money laundering trials. I did LL.M from Kurukshetra University and Post Graduate Diploma in Criminology and forensic Science. I am teaching to various judicial academy at Chandigarh subjects of CPC, CrPC, Evidence Act to students preparing for Judicial service Exams. Till today, more than 200 students of mine had joined Judicial Service in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar states. I am Guest faculty at Central Detective Training Institute, Govt of India, Chandigarh.

2. What inspired you to choose law as your career?

I was inspired by Shri. Ram Jethmalani, Senior Advocate who happened to be chief Guest at my school Annual Day function.

3. Tell us about your study time during college.

I was very regular student at Punjabi University, Patiala from where I did my LL.B (professional). I used to participate in Quiz competitions and moots.

4. What areas of law fascinated you the most?

My favourite subjects are Code of Criminal Procedure and Indian Evidence Act.

5. Do you think, mooting, publication and internship are important in law student’s life?
Yes, they are extremely important , because student gets habit of law research as well as develops confidence by participating in moots, which will help him, when he actually joins the legal profession.

6. Did you ever had an internship experience during your college and how much internship is important for a law student?

Yes, I did my internship with Malhotra and Malhotra Associates, a law firm at Chandigarh. I learnt practice aspects of drafting, legal research, arguing from my mentor Sh. Anil Malhotra.

7. What should be prime concern of a law student.?

Every law student must be clear about his goals in life, whether he/she wants to pursue court practice or join judicial service. He/she should start his preparation from that angle, from day one of joining law college t. That will make his/her journey comparatively smooth in future.

8. The best experience and success habit you would like to share with law students to encourage them.

Never waste your time, plan your day, sit in library, develop habit of research in law, remember important judgments’ & most important continuous updating of yourself.

9. What would be your message to our readers, who are primarily law students and young lawyers?

Law is a fantastic profession, Never stop learning and Always be inquisitive, It’s a most enjoyable profession, it commands respect in society. You can contribute and give back to society. Build relationships and learn to network with other people. Be especially good at this.
